At Beats and Books this week, we prepared skits for each day to teach the kids the Easter story, beginning from the day Jesus was born to the day He resurrected. After our last skit at the end of the week, we split into small groups and had questions prepared to discuss with the kids. I enjoyed getting to talk with some of the older girls in a smaller group setting about who Jesus is, what the resurrection means for us, what Jesus promises us, and how we should live our lives, knowing that Jesus is alive.
We got to go to two worship nights this week! A team from Bethel Church came to South Africa and has been putting on worship nights, one being at GLA (which is on the property which we are staying). Another church had a Gen Z for Jesus worship night Friday, so that was a super cool night to be a part of. I’ve mentioned it before, but it is special to worship Jesus with people from across the world. Despite backgrounds, upbringing, ethnicity, culture, we all get to unite under one name, the name of Jesus.
This week one of our squad leaders had a birthday, and a cafe at the mall near us sponsored breakfast for our whole squad. Several on my squad have built relationships with their employees throughout our time here, and they wanted to provide us with a meal. After we ate, we got to pray with the employees and bless them, as they blessed us with their generosity.
On Thursday of this week, we took a break from the ministries that we have been in and helped with a field day event here at GLA. It was put on for preschoolers-3rd grade. They had track and field events, as well as activities like water balloon toss, tug of war, sack races, bowling, etc. We enjoyed helping the GLA staff and parents put on this event that the students had been preparing for for weeks. They had team Green Pirates and team Purple Warriors. The Green Pirates took the W, so they were on top of the world. The Purple Warriors on the other hand… lots of tears. They all put their blood, sweat, and tears into the events.
On Sunday we all came to the beach and had an awesome moment with one of our squad mates who decided to get baptized here in Jeffreys Bay! Watching him grow in his relationship with Jesus and desire him more and more has been a blessing to see, and we loved celebrating him today, as he made a public declaration of his faith. Before coming on this trip, the Holy Spirit let me know that I would see my squad mates experience the love of God like never before, and there is no doubt he has experienced God’s unconditional love in a new and fresh way. Thank you, Father!
